Abundance Designation
A – abundant – These birds are very numerous and should be found on every visit and in a variety of habitats.
C – common – These birds are almost certain to be found in the appropriate habitat.
U – uncommon – These birds occur regularly in modest numbers and should be seen by looking in the appropriate habitat or season.
O – occasional – These birds occur infrequently, usually only a few times a season, in limited numbers, and in specific habitats.
R – rare – These birds occur very infrequently; they may or may not be seen in any
given year or season.
Ac – accidental – Very few records; these birds have been seen but should not be expected.
Ir – irruptive – These birds occur irregularly; they may be abundant one year and absent in another.
X – extirpated – These birds occurred historically but are no longer found in Connecticut.
* – These birds are known to breed in the Park.
