Fungi in Forests and Landscapes: Friends or Foes?

Most people can recognize a mushroom when they see one, but have you ever wondered how that mushroom got there?  And what it’s doing there, anyway?  Ever wondered about that yellow blob that seems to appear spontaneously in your mulch or on your lawn?  Did you know that many plants, including the trees in our forests, could not survive without the important associations their roots establish with fungi?

Join us as Dr. Robert Marra presents Fungi in Forests and Landscapes: Friends or Foes? and introduces us to the fascinating world of that poorly understood Kingdom Fungi.

Bob, a Menunkatuck member from West Haven, is a plant pathologist with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station with research specializations in forest pathology, mycology, population biology, genetics, evolution, and molecular biology. While his research interests center around forest pathology, he studies a range of plant pathogens from various perspectives, including population biology, ecology, and mating system evolution.
