Clustered mountain mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) is a copious blooming native perennial with profuse white or pink flower clusters from mid to late summer to early fall. Growing in a compact clumping form its 2-3′ stems are covered with needle-like leaves.
The flowers are attractive to many kinds of insects, including long-tongued bees, short-tongued bees, solitary wasps, flies, butterflies, skippers, beetles, wasps, and flies. While the seeds are too small to be of much interest to birds, the many pollinators that visit the plant attract insectivorous birds. Deer and rabbits are repelled by its strong mint-like scent.
