$12.00

Purple Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum) is a beautiful 1- to 2-foot tall woodland wildflower with a 12-inch spread. Hairy stems that give the plant its name) are topped by showy, drooping, tubular flowers that contain nectar that attracts long-tongued bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds especially adapted for reaching it. The blossom shades range from pale hues of purples and blues to white. Other pollinators find it more difficult to get nectar from the inch-long tubes. Baltimore checkerspot butterfly caterpillars feed on the leaves as they grow and gain strength to become butterflies. Airy beardtongue is deer resistant.
