Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) is a perennial, warm-season grass that can grow to 3 to to 8 feet high. Growth begins in the spring with most of its growth in June and August. It has broad blue-green blades, and a large, plume-like panicles that are yellow with pollen and turn bonze as the seed heads mature. It prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade.

The plant provides excellent cover year-round for birds and mammals and its seeds are eaten by songbirds The plant is deer and drought resistant.
