Lanceleaf tickseed or coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) is a clump forming perennial that expands into colonies from underground rhizomes. It typically grows to 2- to 3-feet tall. It prefers full sun with moist, well-drained soil. In spring slender stalks rise bearing bright green stem leaves that are usually deeply lobed. The stems are terminated by golden daisy-like flowers. It can be an aggressive self-seeder and will form colonies and should be planted in areas where this would not be a problem. It attracts butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. Seeds provide food for birds. The plant is resistant to damage by deer.
