Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) is a tough, quick growing 5-10-foot native shrub, tolerant of infertile soils and drought and deer resistant. Its May-June flowers attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. The fruits that follow from June through September are eaten by birds and small mammals. The dense growth provides cover for birds.
