Pussytoes (Antennaria plantaginifolia) is a perennial ground cover with silvery-gray leaves that grows only 6 inches tall and spreads 1-2 feet wide. It does best in full sun to part shade in poor quality soil with little organic matter. Once established it will tolerate dry conditions. The low, colony-forming plant spreads by runners forming a weedless ground-cover. In mid-to-late spring, a central stem develops from the basal leaves. Small white flowers appear in clusters at the end of stems. They are either male or female flowers. This stem then dies down in summer leaving the rosette of basal leaves.

This plant supports American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis) larvae.

Bees, butterflies, pollinators, small mammals, and songbirds are attracted to the plant. It is deer resistant.
