Trumpet honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) is a twining vine with round to oval leaves. The lovely, tubular flowers make quite a show in late spring to early summer and will continue to bloom sporadicly through the summer. The are a favorite of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and will be visited by other pollinators. The small red berries are eaten by songbirds like thrushes and sparrows. Trumpet honeysuckle is a larval host for the spring azure butterflies. It prefers well-drained neutral soil. Encourage vine to climb a trellis or other support. It is deer resistant.
