Blue-stemmed Goldenrod (Solidago caesia) is a clump-forming native perennial with bold displays of greenish-purple stems of gold clusters in September. This goldenrod has simple foliage and grows 1- to 3-feet tall in full sun to light shade. Unlike other goldenrods, S. caesia is not aggressive, spreading slowly by creeping rhizomes or seed. Once established, it is drought-tolerant. It supports 10 specialist pollinators and is a larval host plant for a native leaf beetle, leafhoppers, and several flies. Songbirds such as American Goldfinch enjoy the seeds. While small mammals will eat the foliage, deer avoid the plant.
