Montezuma Wetlands Complex and Migrating Waterfowl

Alyssa Johnson

Alyssa Johnson

The Montezuma Wetlands Complex is an Audubon designated Important Bird Area, specifically for migratory waterfowl that number in the hundreds of thousands during the spring and fall migration.

Join Audubon New York Environmental Educator, Alyssa Johnson, for a virtual tour of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Alyssa works out of the Montezuma Audubon Center located in Savannah, New York, surrounded by marshes, swamps, hardwood forests, grasslands, and agricultural fields.

The Montezuma Wetlands Complex is a cooperatively managed 50,000 acre with lands owned and managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The Montezuma Audubon Center is open year-round and provides the bulk of the environmental education programming to K-12 schools, colleges, Scouts, 4-H members, home schooled students and offers guiding birding tours (hiking, driving, or paddling!), workshops, and guest speaker events.
