Urbanscapes Native Plants Nursery, a partnership between Menunkatuck Audubon Society and CPEN, is New Haven’s first Urban Native Plant Nursery. Funding came from an Audubon in Action Grant. Gather New Haven and the City of New Haven supported the project by giving permission to use two vacant lots in Newhallville. The Darien and Norwalk Pollinator Pathways helped us by designing four 12’x4’ raised beds and raising money for materials.
CPEN’s Community Youth in Action high school students from Newhallville worked on the project from April through August. They assembled the raised beds and planted, watered and nurtured the 250 plants that we’ve grown.
CPEN’s work focuses on improving quality of life through engagement and the repurposing of public spaces to increase health and wellness in underserved neighborhoods.
Now we are ready to sell the plants. Pollinator friendly perennials and shrubs are available.
Prices
Perennials - $12
Shrubs - $20, except Black Chokeberry - $25
